|
| Nightlife in Thailand | |
Away from the strongly touristed areas of the country, Thai nightlife frequently centres on open-air music bar-restaurants. |
|
| Customers are predominately Thai, as are the singers, dancers and musicians. Typically, the audience will sit at tables with food and drink served by waitresses, sometimes dancing in front of the stage. | |
| Often the performers' payment will depend on the number of garlands given to them by customers. | |
| Typically, the music starts around 9pm and continues to 1am or 2am, the performers returning to the stage at regular intervals. | |
| Most songs are Thai (and Lao) favourites, sometimes requested by members of the audience, with whom the singers may be invited to sit. | |
| Most singers and all dancers are female, though there are numerous male singers. | |
| With no pause in the entertainment, a female singer will often emerge from the chorus line for her turn at the microphone. | |
